Eyelid Surgery

Model - Eyelid Surgery

We constantly use our eyes to interact with the world around us. Whether it's a sly wink across a crowded room or alert focus during a job interview, our eyes speak volumes about how we're feeling. If you're afraid sagging lids or under-eye bags are sending the wrong message to others, blepharoplasty, often called eyelid surgery, in Nashville, TN with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Tierney might be the solution.

Would you like to find out what eyelid surgery by Dr. Tierney can do for you? Request a consultation online, or call our office at (615) 320-8585.

Following eyelid surgery, most patients say they appear more alert and awake, with smooth, firm, younger-looking eyelids that often improve the look of the entire face.

What Is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is a versatile procedure that can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Dr. Tierney adjusts each procedure to suit the individual needs of each patient. In general, eyelid surgery can correct the following concerns:

Eyelid surgery is different from a brow lift, which elevates the brows and smooths the forehead. These two procedures are often performed together for more comprehensive results.

Your Eyelid Surgery

At Dr. Tierney's Nashville practice, eyelid surgery is performed under local anesthesia with sedation. This combination minimizes risk without sacrificing patient comfort. Once the patient is fully anesthetized, Dr. Tierney makes the incisions. Regardless of whether the surgery targets the upper or lower eyelids, Dr. Tierney takes care to conceal the incisions within the natural contours of the eyelid. These incisions will heal to very discreet scars.

Once he's made the incisions, Dr. Tierney removes and repositions underlying muscle and fat according to the patient's unique surgical plan. He may also remove excess skin for a tighter, smoother contour with fewer wrinkles. Once he is satisfied with the results, he closes the incisions with sutures.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery & Results

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, which means that patients may return home the same day. Discomfort is minimal and can be effectively managed with prescribed medications. Dr. Tierney recommends that eyelid surgery patients sleep with their heads upright for several nights following the procedure in order to reduce swelling.

Sutures are typically removed within 1 week, and bruising and swelling reduce significantly after 10 days. Dr. Tierney advises against strenuous activities or anything that can contribute to eye dryness or irritation for the first 10 days, including wearing contact lenses. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work once their sutures are removed.
